Apparently, even after they let you go, some bosses think it's ok to reach out to ex-employees with a business question.
That's right. Joe (names have been changed to protect the innocent), was let go by his company almost a year ago. Then his old boss reached out to him. Not to find out how he was doing or to offer any help, but to ask Joe if he remembered why they had made the decision to switch vendors for their SEO programs. He needed to provide an explanation to his boss, and he just couldn't remember the reason why they switched. Really? Joe immediately had several choice crabby responses (and several wrong ones) to send but eventually he decided to take the higher road and told (reminded) his ex-boss why the decision had been made. All he got for his thoughtfulness and help was "Are you sure?" Joe responded, "Yes." And after that there was no other communication. No thank you, no nothing. Bosses sure can be sh!tty!

Who lays off people over the phone?
Apparently Sh!tty bosses do. Crabby has heard that someone called into what she thought was a normal one-on-one, only to be told that she was laid off and would lose phone access and be escorted from the building in 15 minutes. Really? Is that how people are treated? By all accounts, this wasn't a corporate spy. This was just a regular employee, expecting to learn about her upcoming performance evaluation timeline. At least, she says, she doesn't have to do her performance evaluation. That's the spirit! People, stink, that's all Crabby has to say. Who lays off people near the holidays?
Well, apparently there are many sh!tty bosses who do. And although there are fiscal reasons for doing so (they can expense the severance packages or they need to send an expense control message to the shareholders or market), it really is a terrible thing to do to employees. Plus, laying people off anytime from the end of November to the beginning of January effectively eliminates 6 weeks of job searching, because, let's face it, no one is going to be hiring over the holidays. So not only is it a bad time to do it for both ex-and current employee morale (hard to enjoy the holidays when your peers are affected ... and let's face it, when will it happen to you?) but an employee could face real financial hardship when starting with that kind of 6 week non-activity handicap. Bah Humbug! Crabby Pants I thought it would be a perfect start to my blog to list some of the sh!tty stuff bosses do to us.
I hope you'll check back often for sh!tty stuff or swearable moments that'll make you just as crabby as I am. So, my first crabby tidbit to share is from the Sh!tty stuff my boss does coloring book: My boss made me wait while he had to have one last smoke and we missed our flight home. Bosses are so inconsiderate. I can't believe someone actually put these selfish people in charge. Humpf! It makes me so CRABBY! How about you? |
